First Time Buying a Forklift? Read these Forklift Buying Guidelines
If you’re buying a Forklift for the first time then there are a few things you need to know in order to avoid unnecessary overspending and maximum operating efficiency.
Ask yourself the follow questions when you set out to buy a Forklift:
- What are you going to need the Forklift for?
- What environments do you need the Forklift to operate in?
- How heavy are the objects that you need to transport?
It’s also important to consider the environment in which you want your Forklift to operate:
- Are you going to be using a Forklift outdoors?
- Do you need your Forklift for indoor use like a warehouse?
- If you need a Warehouse Forklift then consider the size of the warehouse. How high is the warehouse ceiling? Will the Forklift be able to manoeuvre in narrow aisles without incident?
Other aspects to consider when Buying a Forklift
The fork length is a very important aspect of buying a Forklift. You must ensure that the fork length is sufficient for the goods you’ll be lifting and transporting. Standard fork lengths on standard Forklift trucks are 42, 48, 60 and 72 inches.
Be sure to take into account the width and height restrictions of your Forklift operating area. Work out the height your Forklift needs to be raised in order to move your goods safely and efficiently. Remember to account for height and width of doorways, aisles and overhead obstructions.
If you’re going to be using an Electric Forklift remember to make sure you have a power supply close to the operating area. The Forklift’s operating environment determines the kind of tires you should be using. For indoors applications, cushion tires that are comparatively small can be recommended. These manoeuvrable and compact tires are made up of hard rubber compound. On the other hand, for outdoors applications the larger pneumatic tires with intense traction grooves are used, enabling travel over rough and wet terrain.
