Logistics and Supply Chain Solutions

In today’s volatile market, companies’ successes are dependant on a robust distribution channel that is able to provide a framework to deliver their goods effectively. Value Logistics, with over 20 years experience in supply chain solutions, stepped up to the mark and has become the supply chain partner of choice for many of South Africa’s leading brands.

Value Logistics has positioned itself as a leader in its field through expanding its services from basic truck rentals to fully outsourced supply chain solutions that include customised door-to-door offerings via road, air and sea. Value’s highly skilled logistics staff are trained to understand their customers’ requirements and are supported by a national and cross-border infrastructure driven through effective technology.

Customers benefit from the advantage of Value’s vast size and infrastructure, with the company boasting in excess of 4 100 vehicles and offering 200 000 m2 of warehousing nationally. Value also offers an integrated IT network, labeling and bar-coding facilities, sophisticated routing and scheduling, as well as 24-hour vehicle and parcel tracking and management.

A centralised national distribution centre in Tunney, Gauteng, Value City was designed and built to cater for specific requirements with receiving, storage and distribution effective in a multi-principled environment. This world-class warehouse facility processes significant volumes of goods, allowing customers to take full advantage of economies of scale through consolidation of product types.

A routing and scheduling tool, FLO, optimises routes for maximum operational efficiency. All drivers and vehicles real-time locations, speeds and stops are constantly monitored from the Control Centre based in Isando.

The division utilises sophisticated, state-of-the-art, computer-controlled and recorded procedures. Every item is bar-coded, and each operator is equipped with a hand-held scanner that is linked to the mainframe computer in real-time. From Tunney, local deliveries are made to Gauteng destinations and depots in nearby centres. A linehaul operation utilising articulated vehicles transports freight overnight to branches nationally. A cross-border service delivers into Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland and Lesotho.

The challenging task of managing Reverse logistics is another key focus of the business. Well-defined SOPs control this process, in a professional and efficient manner. An innovative in-house service, which stations Value staff at customers’ dispatch areas to receive and electronically record parcels, then reroute each parcel to its next destination.

The success of the division is founded on the basic principles of setting very high standards of operation, implementing stringent procedures, insisting on extreme discipline from staff, and working in close co-operation with customers to ensure customised solutions.
