Pimp My Forklift – Anglo Coal Chooses Komatsu
By now you have all seen the “Pimp My Ride” series on television, but how about pimping a forklift truck? This is exactly what happened when the Value Group’s Materials Handling Division recently sold a massive 10 ton Komatsu FD100T-8 forklift truck to the Anglo Coal Mine in Vereeniging.
This particular forklift truck is known for its raw, hardworking power taking on the most testing operating conditions in the field. In addition to this, it is the forklift operator that has to endure the same harsh working conditions. However, in an effort to add value to customers, the Komatsu was fitted with a cab to protect the operator and some sophisticated technical accessories including:
- A self-lubrication system
- Load checker
- Engine oil pre-lubricator
Of course we couldn’t leave out the more luxurious accessories:
- Air-Conditioning – A pleasure for those hot days on site
- A two-way radio so the forklift operator can stay in touch with the outside world
- And just for fun we threw in an MP3 CD player to keep the operator company during those isolated working hours
This was all made possible by the excellent teamwork between the Value Materials Handling workshop staff and the sales office. With tears in his eyes, sales representative Dewald Grobler had the task of reluctantly handing the Komatsu over to Anglo Coal engineer Martin Dimond.
Dewald could only look forward to going back to his desk – and it’s not fitted with an MP3.
